Gilbert Mathews

Gilbert Mathews is the CEO and founder of Lucifer Lighting Company, a San Antonio-based manufacturer of high-end architectural lighting fixtures used in residences, museums, hotels, restaurants, and corporate facilities worldwide. He is a professional member of the Illumination Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) and the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), and has served on the Board of Directors of the IALD Education Trust. Gilbert was given the special designation of Honorary AIA membership in 2012. An accredited lecturer with the AIA, he has presented on Sustainable Lighting Design and the Discrete Lighting of Fine Art and Interiors to architectural practices around the country. He serves as a Life Advisory Board Member with the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture and with the Harry Ransom Center, on the President’s Development Board of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, as a Trustee for the San Antonio Museum of Art and the KLRN Endowment Fund, as a past Overseer for the Libraries of the University of Pennsylvania, and as member of the Board of Visitors of the North Carolina School of the Arts. Gilbert is a native of San Antonio, Texas and received his Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce, University of Pennsylvania and a J.D Law degree from the Columbia University School of Law.
